Today, I will take you back in time. How I used to celebrate this day & how it was made to be a Happy Republic Day.
When we were kids getting an extra day off, (besides a Saturday and Sunday) used to be a proper bonus.
It meant time well spent with family and not hooked on the mobile 😉
enjoy the breakfast
For my family, the breakfast would be really grand, we used to enjoy aaloo puris, subzi for the same. The beverage would be some hot cocoa for kids and good old chai for the elders. This definitely made us all happy, hence it was a happy republic day.
republic day parade
This was the highlight of the day obviously:) We would sit shouting “happy republic day” with a flag and took immense joy in watching the amazing parade.
republic day picnic
It was a tradition for my family to go on a picnic with some very close friends. To be in the mood, we would all dress up in white. The girls or the women would wear the tricolor bangles. Oh, the joys of childhood. A mat, which had everything from a flask filled with tea and lot of good snacks.
Also, a very special cake would be baked by my mother for this picnics. Yes you guessed it, a marble with three colors of our flag. It was the most fun to go enjoy these in the afternoon at our picnic spot.
the feeling of loving ones country comes from within and from the parents to the child. As responsible parents, my family always made me feel happy about being an Indian. These picnic were our times of bonding with our friends, for sure but also to celebrate our love for our India. This really made our republic a very happy one.
How did you celebrate Republic Day as a kid? And is it different from what you do now?
Wishing you all a very Happy Republic Day.
